“My Reflection Paper in Educational Technology 2”

As we started to study the importance of technology in education, it is expecting that we have a subject about using computer because in everyday in our lives we need to use it.since were done to learn the Educational Technology 1 (ET-1) when we where in 2nd year, now this semester we use to learn the “Educational Technology 2”, Sir Kit Pobre discussed different lessons that we are need to learn. First lesson that we learned is all about ‘’A Review of Educational Technology 1’’(lesson:1)it is truly that the foundation for a truly satisfying exposure to educational Technology has been firmly laid down by the ET-1 course, starting with the treatment of the history of Ed.Tech, quality education, and the roles of ET in the 21st Millenium. In ET-1 we, as a learners was also oriented towards averting the dangers of dehumanization w/c technology brings into societies,on the application of educational technology t instruction, Educational Tech.1 showed the 4 phases of application of ed. Tech in Teaching- and -Learning.I now aware that the Educational Technology 1 (ET-1) course has truly paved the way for the Learner to become aware, appreciative and equipped to use educational technology tools ranging from traditional to modern educational media.second, sir Kit present now our next topic w/c is “An Overview: Educational Technology 2” Educational Technology 2 is concerned with “ Integrating Technology into Teaching and Learning.”Specially this is focus on introducing, reinforcing, supplementing and extending the knowledge and skills to learners. The course aims to infuse technology in the student- Teachers training, help us to meet and adapt to rapid and continuing technological changes, particularly in the thriving global information and communication technology (ICT) environment.Ed.Tech2 will involve a deeper understanding of the computer as well as hands-on application of computer skills. Third “Understanding Technology Learners” Today’s Learners appear smarter, yet they can’t read as their parents do and they are addicted to the Internet. Even in classes, the concentration of the child is questionable as they are uneasy to simply sit and listen. On the other hand, it is to be admitted that our teachers today generally use the traditional education program applicable to learners of the past, acquainted with linear, textual, and sequential learning. They fail to realize that the new generation of the 21st millenium is not the kind of learner that they were, but are information technology or digital learners. It is observed that, the new learners spend much time talking with friends on their cellphones, sending text messages, interacting through social Internet media like Facebook, playing video games and surfing the World Wide Web. In this lesson I knew that, The 19th century psychologist Jean Piaget presented a chart from childhood to adulthood with the first two years of susceptible minds, six years of acquiring communication skills, teenage years of transition concrete thinking, an adult years of abstract thinking and reasoning.Fourth “Bridging the Generation Gap” The Older generation often feels there is a generation gap between them and to us younger generation. This is apparent in simple things like the manner of dressing, socializing, more intimate relationships like friendship and marrying, etc. In the field of education, a huge generation gap also exists and it will continue to widen unless some changes are adopted at the proper time. Now given the speed and power of ICT for change, growth, innovation, it becomes critical tat teachers understand the gap that may be perceived between them and the new generation of learners.since the new generations are expected to face a future proffesional challenge of a digital world ahead of them, technology supported skills need to be taught in schools today, Fifth “Preferences of the Technology Generation” In this lesson we learn on What the old generation likes may not be the same as what the new generation prefers in their life, work and leisure. In the field of Education, it is important that critical differences in perceptions between old and young which create a generation gap need to be discussed. Text vs Visuals, Linear vs Hyper media, Independent vs Social learners,Learning to do vs Learning to pass the test, Delayed rewards and instant gratification, Rote memory vs Fun learning. Sixth “Developing basic Digital skills” in this lesson we learned that as a teacher, they must adjust their teaching to effectively match the new digital world of information and communication technology(ICT), They must be clear on what basis knowledge, skills and values, need to be developed by digital learners. But this basic literacies will not replace the 3 rs(reading, writing, and rithmetic)(Solution fluency, Information fluency, Collaboration fluency, Media fluency, Creative fluency, Digital ethics) and we also learned the Higher thinking skills of Bloom’s Taxonomy is can serve as a general framework of skills. Seventh, “Evaluation of Technology Learning” Today, students are expected to be not only cognitive, but also flexible, analytical and creative. In this lesson. There are methods proposed for the use of computer-based technologies as an integral support to higher thinking skills and creativity. Teachers must adopt a new mindset both for instruction and evaluation.Eight, “Higher Thinking Skills Through IT-Based Projects” In this lesson we discuss four types of IT-based projects w/c can effectively be used in order to engage students in activities of a higher plane of thinking.here are the Four Projects that may lead the students.(Resource-based Projects, Simple Creations, Guided Hypermedia Projects, Web-Based Projects).next “Computers as Information and Communication Technology”im much aware now that through computer technology, educators saw the amplification of learning along computer literacy. Much like reading, the modern student can now interact with computer messages, and even in respond to questions or to computer commands. And soon computer- assisted instruction (CAI) was introduced using the principle of individualized learning through a positive climate that includes realism and appeal with drill exercises that uses color, music and animation. In today’s Information Age is so dynamic that within the first decade of the 21st century, computer technology in education has matured to transform into an educative information and communication technology (ICT) in education. Tenth, “The Computer as a Tutor” In this lesson I learned that the computer cannot totally replace the teacher since the teacher shall continue to play the major roles of information deliverer and learning environment controller. The computer is one of the wonders of human ingenuity, even in its original design in the 1950s to carry out complicated mathematical and logical operations. I also learned that CAI computer learning should not stop with the drill and practice activities of students. The computer is a tutor in this new age of learning. It does not replace the teacher, although it assumes certain roles previously assigned to teachers who now has to take the new role of facilitator and guide. Computer activities are not also the end-all of learning since they have to comform to the lesons/curriculum. Integrating computer exercises is the new task of the teacher who can find in the computer and computer software an alternative medum to the traditional classroom practice of delivering information and supporting learning activities. In Lesson 11 which is“The Computer as the Teacher’s Tool” In this lesson, we shall again look at the computer, but this time from another perspective the computer as the teacher’s handy- tool. It can in fact support the Constructivist and social constructivist paradigms of learning. Constructivism was introduced by Piaget (1981) and Bruner (1990). They give stress to knowledge discovery  of new meaning/concepts principles in the learning process. The Computer’s Capabilities, The computer can provide access to information, foster creative social knowledge-building, and enhance the communication of the achieved project package. The computer can provide vast amounts of information in varios forms, such as text, graphics, sound, and video. The computer itself can be used for manipulating information, visualizing one’s understanding, and building new knowledge. We as students can use co-constructive tools to work cooperatively and construct a shared understanding of new knowledge. In lesson 12 we talks about “Information Technology in Support of Student-Centered Learning” In this lesson, we shall see how the teacher can expand his options to make himself ore effective and releant in the 21st millenium information age. In particular, the lesson shall respond to questions on student-centered learning approaches in the class room. We now Proceed to “Cooperative Learning with the Computer” in this lesson shows that even in other progressive countries, the 1:1: pupil-computer ratio is still an ideal to be achieved. We also learned the definition of cooperative learning, the components of cooperative learning and Cooperative learning and the computer. In lesson 14, we now discuss “ The software as an Educational Resources” In this lesson, The computer machine or hardware is naturally an attention-getter. It’s more difficult to realize, how ever, that the computer hardware can hardly be useful without the program or system that tells what the computer machine should do. And last “ Understanding Hypermedia” in this lesson , Hypermedia is nothing but multimedia, The presentation of information-learning activities in hypermedia is said to be sequenced in a non-linear manner, meaning that the learner may follow his path of activities thus providing an environment of learner autonomy and thinking skills. There are also characteristic of hypermedia applications, the Learner control, Learner wide range of navigation routes.and The variety of media. Given this also capabilities, hypermedia stills does not replace life’s experience and learning from nature and life.I am very thankful because Sir Kit Pobre was our Ed-Tech2 teacher because aside for discussing our lessons in creative, effective and meaningful he also influences and inspires us more to be how a good person and should be a good leader and a responsible student of Saint Ferdinand College that must student should have. So I just want to say thank you Sir, for everything I hope that we gave happiness in your heart even if we are very noisy student. I learned a lot on this course and i know that I can apply all the lesson that you’ve shared to us in the future.
